The first day of the Gokyo Lake Trek starts with a 35-minute flight from Lukla to Namche Bazaar. This trip will take you up Cho La Pass at 5,330 meters to reach Everest Base Camp. The Gokyo Lake itinerary doesn‘t cover everything. As you travel towards Gokyo Lake, you’ll pass through grazing settlements filled with yaks and eventually climb Gokyo Ri for amazing views.
From there, you’ll be treated to stunning vistas of Mt. Everest, along with other majestic peaks like Makalu and Cho Oyo, which stands at an impressive 8,021 meters. The Gokyo Lake trek includes visits to Namche Bazaar and the Gokyo valley. This trail offers a lot of beautiful views of Everest and its neighboring giants, all surrounded by rugged valleys, lakes, and glaciers.
The trek to Everest is less crowded than other routes and usually takes 12-14 days, including travel to and from Kathmandu. It is moderately difficult and can reach altitudes of up to 5,000 meters in the hidden valleys of the Himalayas.
This trip includes exploring the Gokyo Lake area, climbing Gokyo Ri for great views of Mt. Everest, and experiencing the rich culture and warm hospitality of the local Sherpa people. We proceed along the right bank of the Bhote Koshi, passing through many kharka (mountain pastures and hamlets). Legend has it that the yeti lives in the village of Taranga; if we do not get to meet him, we can still eat the mouthwatering local potatoes! There is less vegetation and habitation after Marulung. Caravans traveling from Tibet to trade in the Khumbu region cross the valley as it continues towards the Nangpa La pass. Our eyes are delighted by Cho Oyu and numerous other peaks!
