Langtang and Lake Gosainkund trek offers a multitude of highlights, with key attractions including the vibrant rhododendron and bamboo forests teeming with wildlife, stunning waterfalls cascading over massive boulders, the chance to relax in soothing hot springs, breathtaking views of the snow-capped Langtang Lirung, and a visit to the sacred lakes of Gosainkund.
The Langtang, Gosainkund, and Helambu trek commences in the historic city of Kathmandu, where you will take a bus to Syabrubesi, the starting point of your journey. This charming village is situated along the banks of the Bhotekosi River. As you follow the trail alongside the Langtang Khola, you will ascend through lush oak and rhododendron forests, eventually transitioning to bamboo groves at higher elevations. Upon reaching Langtang, you will enter the Langtang Valley and the welcoming Sherpa village of Kyanjing Gompa. Here, you will immerse yourself in the rich spiritual life of devoted Buddhist monks who conduct their rituals in a stunning monastery dating back to around 1300 A.D. Early in the morning, you will hike to Tserko Ri for breathtaking views of the Langtang Lirung range.
The Langtang and Gosainkund Trek offers an opportunity to explore a stunning glacial moraine, which can be ascended based on your schedule, providing breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung and one of its notable glaciers. You will also have the chance to visit a traditional cheese factory where artisanal cheese is produced. After traversing through Lama Hotel and reaching Chadanbari, you can admire the impressive snow-capped peaks of Ganesh Himal and Langtang II. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the rare Red Panda that resides in the Langtang area. As you proceed to Gosainkund, you will be treated to a spectacular sunrise over a vast expanse of glistening lakes at this revered pilgrimage site, which is said to have been formed by Lord Shiva’s trident. Following the Laurebinayak pass, your journey will lead you through scenic rice terraces and several notable Buddhist monasteries in the charming villages of Tarkeghyang, Sermathang, and Melamchi Pul Bazar, before making your way back to Kathmandu.

It is a long bus ride, but a great diversity in the landscapes. From Kakani (2145m), you can admire Annapurna II, Manaslu, Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung. The road heads towards the plain where Trisuli Bazar (548m) is located, 72 km from Kathmandu. The last part seems the longest, the road being a track that goes up the Trisuli River. After reaching Dhunche (1950m), the road continues along the hillside before reaching Syabru Besi after a series of impressive bends.

We ascend further, entering a coniferous forest. It is a steep climb to Ghoratabela (2992 m). The first yaks appear as the valley gets wider and we pass over the forest area. The village of Langtang, the final settlement in the valley where cereals are primarily grown, is protected by the edge of the enormous basin. We see a lot of prayer wheels and water mills. A stunning view of Ganchenpo (6387m) can be seen from Langtang.

This morning, we ascend the moraine cord that confines the valley. Prior to reaching the summit, we traverse a lengthy sequence of mani walls. The valley is now wide and has a typical glacial profile, with granite walls and waterfalls. Kyanjin, formerly a summer village, now boasts numerous lodges to accommodate visitors.

We take advantage of this day to explore the surroundings. There are enough goals to satisfy everyone: visit the first cheese factory in Nepal, created in 1956 by the Swiss – walk to the Lirung glacier – climb to Kyanjin Ri (4773m), above the village from where the view of the Langtang Lirung (7225m) and the Lirung glacier is spectacular – or, more peacefully, climb up the Langtang Khola by the left bank in forests of rhododendrons and birches; cross the hamlets of Jatang and Numthang and arrive at Langshisa Kharka (4160 m) at the bottom of the valley.
