Langtang National Park is home to the primary ethnic groups of Sherpa and Tamang, whose cultural practices, languages, and attire closely resemble those of Tibet. The region features tranquil forests with sub-alpine vegetation. Wildlife in this area includes migratory birds, deer, monkeys and Thar. The stunning landscape offers a challenging trekking experience.
The trek from Kyanjin Gompa in Langtang to Tarkeghyang in Helambu begins with the ascent of Ganja La Pass, reaching an elevation of 5,130 meters. After crossing the Langtang Khola below Kyanjin Gompa, the trail ascends steeply along the southern valley edge, passing through rhododendron and juniper forests. The Ganja La trail continues southward, following streams and moraines while climbing sharply toward the pass. From the pass, the views to the north of Langtang Lirung and the snow-capped peaks in Tibet, including Mont Shishapangma at 8,013 meters, are breathtaking. On clear mornings, the vistas to the south are equally impressive. To the west of the pass lies Naya Kangri (at 5844 meters), also known as Ganja La Chuli, which stands at 5,846 meters and is a recognized trekking peak that requires a permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association.
There are no teahouse facilities available in the Ganja La region, so trekkers must be fully self-sufficient and well-prepared to meet their needs. With its natural beauty and awe-inspiring scenery, this area offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience nature at its finest. It is truly a captivating destination where one can witness the fulfillment of their dreams.

It is a long bus ride, but a great diversity in the landscapes. From Kakani (2145m), you can admire Annapurna II, Manaslu, Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung. The road heads towards the plain where Trisuli Bazar (548m) is located, 72 km from Kathmandu. The last part seems the longest, the road being a track that goes up the Trisuli River. After reaching Dhunche (1950m), the road continues along the hillside before reaching Syabru Besi after a series of impressive bends.

We ascend further, entering a coniferous forest. It is a steep climb to Ghoratabela (2992 m). The first yaks appear as the valley gets wider and we pass over the forest area. The village of Langtang, the final settlement in the valley where cereals are primarily grown, is protected by the edge of the enormous basin. We see a lot of prayer wheels and water mills. A stunning view of Ganchenpo (6387m) can be seen from Langtang.

This morning, we ascend the moraine cord that confines the valley. Prior to reaching the summit, we traverse a lengthy sequence of mani walls. The valley is now wide and has a typical glacial profile, with granite walls and waterfalls. Kyanjin, formerly a summer village, now boasts numerous lodges to accommodate visitors.

We take advantage of this day to explore the surroundings. There are enough goals to satisfy everyone: visit the first cheese factory in Nepal, created in 1956 by the Swiss – walk to the Lirung glacier – climb to Kyanjin Ri above the village from where the view of the Langtang Lirung (7225m) and the Lirung glacier is spectacular – or, more peacefully, climb up the Langtang Khola by the left bank in forests of rhododendrons and birches; cross the hamlets of Jatang and Numthang and arrive at Langshisa Kharka (4160 m) at the bottom of the valley.
